Located on one bend of the curving Little Conewago Creek, this property is filled with history. It served as a muster site for local militia to meet up with George Washington’s army that quelled the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794. It also served as a gathering place for York settlers during the Revolutionary War.
Old Money and the Sports Car Market: A Collector’s Perspective
Today, this historic home and land continues to serve as a community gathering spot. The upper reaches of the land are used for picnicking and walking trails while the lower section is a public breathing space with an overlook of the entire city. It is a favorite sledding spot for York residents during the winter months.
The historic house on this property is home to the YORK University’s Newman Club, Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, Hillel, and other religious student groups on campus. It also hosts receptions for visiting artists, lecturers and special guests. This location is the focus of an ongoing research project to further document York?s earliest industrial sites as part of the National Register of Historic Places.
