Kent Rabish founded Grand Traverse Distillery 17 years ago, just outside of Traverse City. He was inspired to start the family business after attending a tasting with New Holland Distillery, which opened in 1992 and helped launch the craft distilling movement.
From their earliest releases, Rabish and his team have been committed to sourcing local ingredients and operating a sustainable business. Their gin, Peninsula Gin, showcases a delicate wheat base allowing bright juniper and citrus notes to shine through. Their Barrel-Rested Peninsula Gin ages the gin for 10 months in ex-bourbon and rye barrels, which lends it a warm melange of zest and vanilla.
In the summer, Long Road Distillers grows lavender on their farm. The resulting Petoskey Stone Gin—their signature product—is all about Northern Michigan, from its name to its botanicals. They take their commitment to local ingredients seriously, sourcing only those that are in season and have been grown responsibly. Their gin pairs well with lime and mint, or it can be enjoyed in one of their artisan cocktails.
Kyle VanStrien and Jon O’Connor co-founded Long over a shared passion for craft spirits. They operate what they call a “grain-to-glass” distillery, leveraging their Vendome copper & brass stills to make their own brandy, corn whiskey, rye whiskey, gin, rum, and liqueurs.
